The 2020 US Elections Night – Online EACC event
In the midst of a pandemic and a divided country, the United States is on the eve of choosing the next president. Early voter turnout shows that already twice as many people have voted than in the 2016.
The EACC Rhônes-Alpes will capture the historic night with several renowned experts for a live, online event on November 3 from 17:30 to 20:00.
The special guest is American philospher Dick Howard. The event takes place at CEFAM, the French American business school in Lyon. Spots are limited and cost €72 TTC.
Dick Howard is distinguished professor emeritus at Stony Brook University and author of “Les Ombres de l’Amérique – de Kennedy à Trump.” In the first part of the event, Dick Howard will talk about contemporary American poltics .
The second part inovles a roundtable on the social, poltical and economic ramifications at stake in the elections.

Dick Howard, American philosopher, distinguished professor emeritus at the State University of New York, and member of the editorial board at Esprit. Howard regularly comments on events in American political life on France Culture and France Inter. He is the author of 15 books, including
“Les Ombres de l’Amérique – de Kennedy à Trump” an unprecedented reinterpretation of contemporary American history.
Erin Monaghan, director of the faculty at CEFAM, the French American business school in Lyon, has more than 10 years of experience in international education. Her career began with the World Federation of the United Nations Associations in New York. She then worked in Morocco and Algeria before settling in Lyon, France, where she is actively involved in the American community. She has been a guest lecturer in international relations in Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy), Bhutan (Royal Thimphu College) and Kazakhstan (Almaty Management University). She holds a Masters II in International Relations and Diplomacy from Seton Hall University (New Jersey, USA).
Olivier Richomme is lecturer in American civilization at the Lumière Lyon 2 University.
He is also a lecturer at Sciences Po Lyon. As a specialist ethnic-based statistics and how they apply in the United States, he is interested in national and local politics, particularly in California. Author of numerous scientific articles, in English as in French, he has presented numerous papers at international conferences. He is one of the few French specialists of the American electoral system. His latest book published in 2019 is “Race and Partisanship in California Redistricting: From the 1965 Voting Rights Act to Present.”
Gérard Guyard, Doctor of Law and holder of an MBA from HEC, is the CEO of Gravotech, specializing in the design of marking systems. Gravotech has 19 subsidiaries abroad, which generates 85% of its turnover. Gérard Guyard lives between the United States and France. Member of the board of directors of the French American Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta and French Foreign Trade Advisor, he actively participates in exchanges between the French and American economic community. More recently, Gérard Guyard took over the chairmanship of the Management Board of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Entreprises on a voluntary basis, in order to help companies in the region invest abroad and work on the attractiveness of the territory.
