GDPR : A transatlantic review of data privacy
Due to the public health crisis and travel restrictions, this event has been rescheduled and will be held as a webinar. The original date was September 8 and the new date is Semptember 29 at 5pm.
Presentation in English with French questions welcomed
It’s been two years since the European Union launched the GDPR, and many European companies that prepared are still wondering if they’re fully compliant. American companies are scrambling to understand the GDPR’s implications as they cater to a European market.
Now the US is enforcing its own version of data privacy as California introduced the CCPA last January.
We’ll also address the recently invalidated Privacy Shield by the CJUE (Cour de Justice de l’Union Européenne).
This presentation looks at the impact privacy laws are having on digital platforms and the legal issues on both sides of the Atlantic. It provides updates on the ever-changing measures and the loopholes that remain ambiguous, especially with the CNIL, France’s data privacy governing body.
This is not a technical “how to be compliant” presentation. Rather, it’s a review of issues surrounding compliancy, your options, and what you can do to avoid missteps. You will learn how data laws, and the way you manage compliant issues, may affect your web and digital platforms.
Alex McCardell, founder of WS Interactive, will address real scenarios as he has a hands-on approach with international client websites. Greg Voss will cover the legal aspects. Voss is an associate professor of business law at TBS Business School.
The talk is geared for companies targeting an international market or that just want to be GDPR compliant in France. It will be beneficial to marketers, tech folks, DPOs (Délégué à la Protection des Données), and those involved in B2B and e-commerce.
Free for Digital 113 and EACC Southwest members and for for non-members.
McCardell is an international digital strategist. He is the founder and CEO of the digital agency WS Interactive, a Toulouse-based web agency passionate and engaged in digital strategy, UI/UX design and web development. McCardell is also the co-president EACC Southwest France.
Since 2011, Prof. Gregory Voss has been a resident faculty member at TBS Business School, where he teaches business law classes. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan and a DESS in Law and Information Systems (now a Master 2 in Digital Law) from the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole. He is an associate member of the Research Institute in European, International and Comparative Law (IRDEIC) at the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence).
